Last week on Trending Tuesday I shared with you guys 2 ways to style a dress for fall…I don’t know about you, but I am truly a fan (of the layering, not myself)!  It’s honestly the best way to wear a dress during the colder months. And it gives you a whole new perspective on your closet.

Take this Ribbed Knit Maxi Dress for example. I found this while perusing the sale racks at H&M. Normally I would have passed it by knowing it wouldn’t get worn until next summer, and that’s if it was still in style. But now with this new layering technique I can look at dresses and see them as more than just summer pieces. I knew I had plenty of long sleeve shirts that could layer under this and even a few sweaters that could easily coordinate overtop!

Tip: If you layer with a button-down shirt, unbutton it from the dress neckline on up. This accentuates the neckline of your dress and creates some cohesion between the two items.

I love the side slits of this dress. It gives this maxi dress more movement making it so much easier to walk in.  It also means I will try pairing it over jeans! Slits, Slits, Slits!!!

Tip: If you haven’t noticed I wear my white sneakers far too often. Keep your kicks fresh by giving them a quick wipe down (wet towel or sponge) after every wear. It only takes 2 seconds and will make them last so much longer!

Tip: Don’t be afraid of bright colors for fall. Add a pop to your autumn palette to stand out!

I am so stoked about yellow being a statement color for fall! It is one of my favorites and as you can see gives a great pop to an outfit…

I was pretty much in love with my outfit today! I can’t wait to pair this dress with another shirt. I bought a baby blue button-down just for it! As you can tell I am taking some of my own advice and doing dresses for fall the right way! I love this styling trick!

What do you guys think of pairing a dress over a shirt? Have you tried it yet this season?
