I am currently staying in Fayetteville, AR. It is a BEAUTIFUL place. Today we decided to take a trip to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The museum was awesome to say the least. The way it combines an inside gallery atmosphere with exploration through the beautiful landscape that is NW Arkansas made for an amazingly fun day. If you ever are in Arkansas, I definitely recommend giving this museum a visit!
My favorite room in the museum was the 1940s to Now Gallery. The pieces were so much fun, and some were even interactive!
Back in the day smoking was the epitome of cool. Now we know the horrible effects it has on our body. But this painting can make you forget with the vibe it’s giving off. I can see why people would be enticed to smoke…it almost got me!
This sculpture was so much fun, mostly because of the interaction it created with the docents. The description instructs you to speak low into the hearing horn, and a tune by Beethoven will play back at you. However, it takes a very deep and louder than soft (which is appropriate museum level) sound to trigger the reaction. I was struggling, causing the docents to yell instructions across the room and laugh with my failed attempts. It was eventually the docents’ voices from across the room that triggered the song to play. I couldn’t even get it from right in front of the piece!
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Katy Perry’s “This is How We Do” music video, but this sculpture instantly reminded me of the twerking ice cream cone. This was the only outside piece we were able to get pictures with before it started pouring rain. Even with the rainfall, this museum was amazing. So many great pieces of art spanning American history. What a great experience in NW Arkansas!
